This carving was completed while in residence in Venice, Italy in the Arsenale section of the city. Antonio Vivaldi was a priest, composer
and director of the music school at the Ospedale della Pieta. Although there are no known authenticated pictures of Vivaldi, he had brilliant red hair and was known as the “Red Priest”. This
carving was based on a caricature and was executed mainly in the Campielle Tagliapietra in Venice.
