This sculpture is a tribute to the African American jazz singer, Josephine Baker, who left New York for the Folies Bergeres in Paris. In Paris she transcended race barriers and became the darling of the French Parisians who called her “La Perle Noir”. She became a modern sex symbol and singer, living in Paris for the next Fifty years. The sculpture was executed in Black Walnut and has a deep rich natural brown color.
